Side Extensions

Side return and side infill extensions, designed around light, boundaries and the permitted development rules that govern them.

Side Extensions

Side extensions live or die on daylight and boundary rules: permitted development caps them at half the width of the original house and 4 metres high, and within 2 metres of a boundary the eaves must stay under 3 metres.

  • PD and boundary position confirmed for your property
  • Daylight-led design options
  • Party wall guidance where the works adjoin a neighbour

Will a side extension make my kitchen dark? +
Designed properly, the opposite: rooflights over the side return typically bring in more light than the original window did. Daylight is the first thing we test.
Do I need to tell my neighbours? +
If works affect a shared wall or are within statutory distances, the Party Wall Act requires formal notice. We advise on this as part of the design stage.
